Business and Finance
Purpose
The purpose of the Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance at levels 1, 2 and 3 is to introduce learners to the world of business, administration and finance and to enable progress to related studies or employment in the wider business sector.
The Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance is for all learners and has particular relevance to the 14-19-year-olds who seek to acquire knowledge and skills in the broad context of business, administration and finance and to progress to FE and HE and/or a range of business roles.
Principal Learning provides all learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding essential to the sector covered. Specialist Learning enables learners to acquire a deeper understanding of the topics covered in Principal Learning or to explore a related topic with a more local focus and to apply this understanding in practice.
Each Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance has been designed to:
- meet the needs of employers in all sectors of the business community, including the private, public and voluntary sectors, by appealing to learners who have an interest in a career in business or who aspire to running their own business and by preparing them for entering the business world in any sector of the economy;
- promote the development of the essential knowledge, understanding and competencies needed for progression to, and success in, further study at the appropriate level;
- be challenging to young people and to raise expectations of their abilities, thus allowing them to exceed the minimum requirements of employers, FE and HE;
- be exciting and motivating to young people both in its content and its mode of delivery;
- be forward-looking and flexible by allowing changes in the business environment to be incorporated into the programme of learning;
- be deliverable at all centres, which will be encouraged to develop new ways of delivery which will engage learners.
Each Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance will:
- enable individuals to acquire relevant Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) in the context of business, administration and finance;
- provide opportunities to acquire and practise essential functional skills in English, Mathematics and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) relevant to the level and delivered in the context of business, administration and finance;
- offer progression to other Diplomas, to further education and to work-based apprenticeships and training as well as the opportunity to transfer laterally;
- aid effective transition to higher education and to working life;
- provide a motivating learning experience for the individual through a blend of general education and applied learning within a coherent and stimulating programme.
