Investigate: Before my visit I found out this about the company

Hertel was established in the UK in 1975 (organised from Netherlands) It delivers a complete package of services for industrial Maintenance – its market sectors are oil and gas chemical, waste, food power and process industry and tank terminals.

Observe: While at the company I job shadowed an Employee. This is what happened:

Followed the process from customer request > costing > planning > buying and sorting maintenance >working.
Got basic info of how the system works plus handouts – use these with students to explain the process and various jobs.

Interview: I talked with a member of staff to find out more about their role. This is what I found out:

    Apprenticeship route (health and safety officer) wants to be overall health and safety director.

Imagine: From the perspective of a student the advice I would give is:

Areas within engineering – not always overalls and boots and dirt.
Would discuss how industry fits in with diploma and questions pupils would need to ask while in industry.

Summarise: The things I have found beneficial from the day(s) in the work environment are:

Very useful info to use with pupils, as Risk Assessments, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Total Quality Management.
Industrial panning and costings.
