Investigate: Before my visit I found out this about the company

Part of group of nurseries across the region, same schemes of work, but individual management. Offers lots of opportunity to increase levels of qualification.

Observe: While at the company I job shadowed an Employee. This is what happened:

Staff are assigned a room to supervise, follow fomentation strategy in the morning, play in the afternoon, all activities are recoded, what children have eaten and how much is recorded to respond to parents. Lunch is (WHAT) and staff cover for one (WHAT) morning between rooms at times. Work Shifts 8-5, 7-4, 9-6,

Interview: I talked with a member of staff to find out more about their role. This is what I found out:

  Level 4 – Btec National Level 3 – Early Years, Level 3 – Children’s Care.

Participate: I took part in a work related activity. This is what happened:

  Took responsibility for making fruit smoothies one afternoon, read to class, served meals/snacks, played with children.

Imagine: From the perspective of a student the advice I would give is:

Aim to achieve at least level 3 as a minimum qualification as the boundaries are rising all the time- minimum entry Level 3.
Can get on the job training, management needs Level 4 +. Can get involved with looking after /playing with children from the (WHAT) Some jobs that have to be done are not pleasant. It is not all playtime and fun. Be prepared to help with anything.
