Investigate: Before my visit I found out this about the company

Residential care home for the over 65's. It has a separate EMI unit.

Observe: While at the company I job shadowed an Employee. This is what happened:

Was on emergency call which consisted of Toilet, Shower and Bath assistance.

Collecting and moving objects for residents. Worked during meal times and tea breaks and participated in activity sessions.

Interview: I talked with a member of staff to find out more about their role. This is what I found out:

  Lots of staff currently completing NVQ's. Some students now employed at Elwick Grange. Employees given the possibility of on the job training & qualifications.
• Where do they see themselves in the future:
  Given the possibility of promotion and progression to a higher level.

Participate: I took part in a work related activity. This is what happened:

Imagine: From the perspective of a student the advice I would give is:

Health and Safety to consider. Get involved - help out wherever possible. You need to build up relationships with staff and residents. Need to respect privacy of residents.
