The advice I would give a young person wanting a career in this line of work is:
Concentrate on school work and make it a priority. Try to find ways of relating school work to a job to make it meaningful. Take opportunities to get part time work and take work experience in term time and holidays. Decide whether to take A Levels and University or Apprenticeships and Part time study - Both Work!
